Big Bowl of Ideas was honored to work on the 2016 Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Convention in Detroit, MI this past May. SEIU represents over 2.2 million public service workers, nurses, hospital staff, nursing home care providers, building services and security guards in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico and is a major force in fighting for working families. The Convention happens every four years and drew upwards of 4000 members, most of the union’s officers, and even presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton!
We were invited to help craft the Convention’s opening presentation, called Meeting The Moment, which told the story of SEIU’s history and ability to make bold decisions in the face of adversity. We conceptualized, wrote and co-produced the entire 30 minute “transmedia” experience, which combined video content, archival footage and photography, animated motion graphics, pop culture references and live spoken word, dance and musical performances. We worked closely with SEIU staff members and Freeman XP to realize our vision, and the resulting presentation showcased some of Big Bowl of Ideas’ strongest capabilities: scriptwriting, cultural programming, video and event production, and design for the greater good.
