Full-Tilt: Infusing Policy with Verve and Vibrancy at Policy Link Equity Summit

Policy Link’s “Equity Summit 2015: All in for inclusion, justice, and prosperity” brought over 2,500 advocates, local leaders and difference makers together in Los Angeles to grow the ranks of the national equity movement. Interactive panels, tours, and in-depth, skills-building sessions showcased how local leaders can impact policy change and ground inclusion, justice, and prosperity in the urgent issues of today. And BBOI was proud to work with its client, Policy Link, to make it happen!

Big Bowl of Ideas was thrilled to utilize our full range of services to help bring the Equity Summit to life. When conference attendees entered the Westin Bonaventure, they immediately saw BBOI’s work with the large entrance banners, gobos, registration banners, and directional signage. When they registered, each attendee received a BBOI-designed and produced tote bag with a graphic that mashed together the Los Angeles skyline, Watts Tower, Whittier Gate to East Los Angeles and the Chinatown Gate—a graphic used throughout the conference to establish a cohesive look and feel rooted in Los Angeles history and culture and the dichotomy of the overall economy and its impact on individual communities.

In preparation for the Equity Summit, BBOI worked with spoken word poet, Mayda del Valle, on the signature “Our Moment” video presented at the Opening Plenary—a commissioned spoken word piece accompanied by video clips, photographs and art that connected the dots of various justice movements in recent years, which received a standing ovation! BBOI curated the cultural programming that saw Mia Doi Todd perform an acoustic set on the first night of the conference and partnered with Grand Performances to produce the “Sounds of LA” closing night reception featuring Mark de Clive-Lowe, Wattstax Revisited from Dexter Story, and DJs Aaron Byrd and Rani de Leon.

At Equity Summit, BBOI collaborated with the Policy Link team to manage concepts and logistics for event production and on-site preparation for the conference. It was an unforgettable opportunity to showcase what is possible when BBOI is tasked with performing a full compliment
of services and products as a composed package. We want to congratulate Policy Link on a powerful conference that not only allowed us to learn more about the equity movement but also sparked collaborative action moving forward.
