August 18th, 2020 marked 100 years since the ratification of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote…or so the story’s been told. To both celebrate and give context to this historic day, Big Bowl of Ideas produced a video for the New Georgia Project entitled “100 Years… For Some.”
In approximately three weeks, the vision came to life, from ideation and creative direction to final product. We started with a script researched and written by BBOI Creative Director Wyatt Closs including visual cues, sound FX and dialogue for the speakers to follow and expand upon.
Then, using our extensive network, we found, hired and remotely directed a production team based in ATL, who conducted a socially distant (with all precautions taken into account) shoot at two separate locations with all three speakers. We led the week-long post production process by providing supplemental assets and animation using necessary historical references, all while communicating efficiently with the NGP staff to ensure transparency and accountability.
Featuring Nse Ufot (Executive Director, NGP), Beverly Smith (National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority) and Dee Dawkins-Haigler (former GA State Representative), this videos seeks to honor the black women leaders left out of the Suffrage Movement, who found themselves at the helm of a fight within a fight and at the receiving end of delayed justice. They rose to the occasion and kept on keeping on so that black women today could enjoy the inalienable right to vote that they’ve always deserved.
With the upcoming election and the burgeoning Black Lives Matter movement (just a few of the global movements we’re contributing our talent and services towards), we hold these black women suffragists’ calls to action as inspiration for us to continue to push forward.
As Ufot says, “We celebrate the 19th amendment’s passage while we continue to fight for its promise.” BBOI is proud to charge ahead in this effort by providing engaging, mission driven content that serves this purpose. It’s all hands on deck until November 3rd and BBOI is happy to see it through.
